What are you doing today?
At the moment I’m on site, assisting in the management of one of our developments. We’re converting a vacant mill into 21 units. It’s very hands-on, which is great. There are loads of opportunities to get your hands dirty here – to really get involved and learn. I’m also dealing with new acquisitions, which involves negotiating with agents and other vendors. I absolutely love what I do.
Do you think your job is important?
Yes, I do. Being a development manager is about trying to provide places to live and work that cater to all tastes. We work closely with the community – make them a part of our team in some ways. Some developers just build monstrosities whereas we try to deal with exciting architects who have new ideas. We try to build in a way that’s sustainable, good to look at and won’t go out of fashion too quickly.
