  • 1. Ex music industry to charity work?

I worked in the music industry for a number of years, mainly in production and distribution. I left 6 years ago to study a degree in business management / economics with the aim of a complete career change.

I've since worked in a couple of IT jobs, doing account / project management but have not enjoyed either of them and am now keen to move into something more rewarding, ideally in a charity or not for profit org doing either project management or business development.

My problem is, I only have around 6 months experience working in a charity / NFP organisation, so I'm curious to know whether I will be considered for these types of roles or if I'll be told I simply don't have enough experience.

I believe I have lots of relevant experience, just not in the right sector...

Any advice would be greatly appreciated...

  • 6. MSc Regeneration courses: worthwhile?

    Hi,
Just wondering if you had some advice.

I have a good first degree in an unrelated subject and have got about 6 years experience working in community development and community led regeneration, as well as a year's experience working in planning policy in central government.

What I am wondering is if it is worth me splashing out on an urban regeneration /renewal masters. I would like to investigate working abroad, or using my skills and experience to move into international community development. I speak 2 other languages pretty well.

Do you think I should just concentrate on building up my experience or should I try and do a Master's course? I would be inclined to try and do something relatively "technical" like Economic Development, but are there any courses that could combine my interest in community involvement with a bit more education on the "harder" side of regeneration?

At the end of the day, does experience count for more than qualifications or do you need both? I am aware of lots of people with masters who have found it hard to get jobs after graduating.

The other thing is I would find it hard to pay for an MSc, so would not be able to undertake it lightly!

thanks in advance for your help!
    Kate

  • 7. Regeneration Officer

    Dear Sir/Maam,

I have currently just completed the second year of my Sociology BA Honours Degree at Worcester University, with my final year left to complete.

Over the past two years I have become highly interested and intrigued by the idea of getting into rengeneration. Therefore after my degree I would like to know how I can gain employement to become a Regeneration Officer? Any information on employers, further education (i.e Masters), graduate schemes and work experience would be greatly appreciated. Also, information on any personal advice on what I should be doing to give me the best chances of getting a job.

    Thank you for your time.

  • 8. Flat Refurbishment

I am in the process of buying a one-bedroom flat to refurbish then rent out and eventually sell on. At the moment it has a dark corridor in the centre of the flat that gets no natural light so I would like to open this out so it becomes open plan. This could change the rooms around so the now bedroom and corridor would become the living area and the current living area would become the bedroom. The only slight reservation I have is that this will mean the bathroom will be straight off the living area, on opposite walls to the kitchen. My question is first is this OK to do with regard to building regs and secondly is this a no-no and will it effect selling the property? The living area is big enough to put a corridor in or I was thinking of a glass block screen to shield the bathroom door. any advise would be much appreciated.
